IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants and refugees across Greece, the Social Worker/Child Protection will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission. The incumbent will have to provide support to unaccompanied migrant children arriving to Greek islands (Lesvos, Chios, Leros, Kos, Samos) and accommodated in the designated safe areas inside the Reception and Identification Centres (RICs).

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a BIA assessment and identifies the needs and vulnerabilities of unaccompanied children;
  • Provides for a full case management and prepares an individual assistance plan (in coordination with the implementing partner, where relevant) of the children, including counselling, information, referral and upon need accompaniment to specialized services and/or administrative services. Prepare all necessary documentation;
  • Assesses the needs of the children and refers to the Field Coordinator;
  • Coordinates with relevant actors and stakeholders present inside the RIC for the cases of the child, including where relevant legal guardians, RIC management, etc
  • Assists in coordinating the provision of care to all minors in line with IOM and national and international standards;
  • Ensures the confidentiality of personal information;
  • Prepares reports, statistics, any other requested documents for the management team;
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned;
  • Undertakes duty travels as requested.
  • ​Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

University degree in Social Work, International Relations, Social Sciences or any other relevant field of study, preferably a bachelor’s degree or higher level from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in psychosocial/child protection/case management support, work in the migrant and refugee’s context or any other relevant experience; working with children will be considered as an asset.
  • Membership of the Association of Greek Social Workers would be an advantage;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Good level of computer literacy;
  • Ability to work under difficult conditions

Languages:

Fluency in Greek and English is required.

The position is subject to funding confirmation.
Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
